The new Joint Educational Training Center is the first of its kind in the State of Illinois. It is a unique joint venture between School District #131, the Illinois National Guard/Federal Guard Bureau, and the NJROTC program, sharing public funds for much needed educational and training spaces.
This multi-faceted structure accommodates drilling space for the 440-Cadet Jr. ROTC program, recreational amenities for the 140-member Illinois Army Reserve National Guard, and additional practice space for varsity sport programs and physical education classes and athletic programs.
Anchoring the connection between the High School and the Guard is a 25,000 S.F. Field House and 1,200 S.F. cardiovascular fitness center. The new addition has its own 15,500 S.F. entrance atrium with trophy displays, restrooms, concessions and ticket areas.
The 22,680 S.F. Illinois Army National Guard space includes simulation room classrooms, offices, a unit storage area, supply area and arms vault, locker rooms, break room, maintenance bay and a fully functional kitchen. The 5,000 S.F. Jr. ROTC space includes a small arms firing range, storage vault, ship's mess, storage units, student lounge and faculty offices.
