Waubonsee Community College's New Field house, with its luminous superscaled "Waubonsee Athletes Wall" and brilliant "Waubonsee Chiefs Red" entrance, creates a compelling new campus focus. It provides professional-level support facilities for student athletes, non athlete students, and guests. The double height daylit atrium provides casual informal meeting / learning spaces. It features a new snack bar and lounge, and provides a clear connection between the existing competition gym and the new Field House. The Waubonsee Athletic "Hall of Fame" is another design highlight. The new Field House includes two indoor hard-surface courts, an artificial turf court, and a 170 meter three-lane indoor suspended running track that circles the perimeter above. It also houses athletic team rooms, visiting team lockers, official's lockers, a dance studio, an athletic team training / strength and conditioning center, and student study hall and classrooms. Erickson Hall's competition gymnasium, fitness center, and locker rooms were also renovated to reposition them for the 21st Century: The local community now has access to the fitness center, running track, and their own locker rooms.
Sustainable design features include a white roof; rainwater harvesting; energy recovery wheels in the heating and cooling systems; and a commissioning agent to ensure systems performance.
The project was completed in March 2015.
