Keystone Architecture, Inc. was asked by Tippecanoe School Corporation to reactivate Battle Ground Intermediate School. This forty-year old school stood unoccupied for three years. The goal was to create an environment that encourages confidence and a desire to learn.
A new roof and two new vestibule additions highlight the main entrances and add energy efficiency by creating an airlock between the outside and inside spaces. This dream plan provides a measure of security and safety. Retooling the bus lanes and vehicular drop off and pick up zones increases the safety of the students, using the existing parking areas. The new design separates students and pedestrians from vehicular traffic by stretching the sidewalks to the school's property lines, and providing a fence between sidewalks and parking area.
New classroom layouts were designed to address the change from a middle school to an intermediate school. New interior finishes utilize contemporary products and color palettes. Design changes in the kitchen provide additional space for coolers, freezers, and dry storage. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were repaired, replaced and updated to increase and improve efficiency of modern systems.
Battle Ground Intermediate School welcomed students back at the start of the 2015- 2016 school year.
